Monday 05 Jan 2026 Morning Notes

Bet you didn't think 2026 would start with the US snatching another country's leader! I'm guessing this will be an interesting year. Position wise, I'm coming into 2026 relatively lean. I don't have many trades on, closed out some bricks on 12/31 to capture the losses for tax purposes. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I have a feeling 2026 will be my biggest year ever, and by a wide margin. I really like the way my trades and strategy have been heading. I guess we'll see!

My 2025 options trading year wasn't bad, posting about +20%, though it's hard to pin down the % return due to the fact that I withdrew a bunch of cash from the options account to pay for a home addition/kitchen remodel. Considering how busy and stressful my year was largely thanks to the home construction, I'm happy to come away with what I did. I also spent a good chunk of gains on "flyers" that didn't pan out, which ate into my total return for 2025. However, the potential return on the flyers was well worth the expense. After all, that's what I'm here for!
